30/07/2007 Lukoil completes Varandey terminal
The installation of the Varandey sleetproof shipping terminal in the Barents Sea will be started one of the nearest days, Lukoil informs. The 11,000 ton terminal module, which is to be installed 22 km off the coast of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, will enable the Russian oil major to significantly increase oil exports through the Barents Sea.

According to Rosbaltnord, the terminal module, which has a diameter of 56 meters and a height of 53 meters, will be linked with a land-connected oil pipeline by end of August this year. The terminal module contains a housing compartment, a helicopter landing space and moorage and oil reloading facilities.
The module is now being transported to the area by the ship “Stanislav Udin" Five grillage beams have been placed on the cargo deck, onto which the Base Structure has been settled down. In order to sufficiently spread the transportation loads, Agom has manufactured special elastomeric blocks that have been placed between the grillage beams and the Base Structure.
In addition, special elastomeric double stoppers have been positioned on the four corners to restrain the Base Structure during transportation. The installation works are conducted by the Lukoil subsidiary "LukoilKaliningradmorneft".
When completed, the Varandey terminal will have a capacity of 12 million tons of oil, about all of which will be exported through the Barents Sea. Most of the oil is extracted by Lukoil in the Timan-Pechora province.
